On 13 February 2026, the Saika Elizabeth Foundation (SELF) hosted an inspiring educational session on Environmental Protection and Gardening at its office premises in Nkolmesseng, Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Thirteen enthusiastic children participated in this hands-on learning experience, guided by a professional gardening expert. The session aimed to connect environmental awareness with practical action, helping children understand how small daily habits can contribute to a healthier planet.

The workshop covered four key areas:

  • The importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment

  • The link between environmental responsibility and healthy living

  • The benefits of establishing small home gardens

  • Practical skills for planting and nurturing vegetables

The most exciting moment of the day was the creation of an office garden. Together with the children, vegetables were planted — transforming learning into action. The joy and curiosity shown by the participants were a powerful reminder that environmental stewardship can begin at a young age.

This initiative goes beyond a single event. Gardening with children is now an ongoing activity within SELF’s programs. Follow-up sessions will ensure that the knowledge gained is applied at home, empowering families and communities.

By equipping children with practical skills and environmental awareness, we are investing in a future generation that values sustainability — regardless of the careers they pursue.

Small hands can indeed create big change.
