Earlier this year, the Saika Elisabeth Foundation (SELF) successfully concluded its project aimed at Restoring the Dignity and Wellbeing of Girls and Women in Jakiri Municipality. A follow-up survey conducted just five months later reveals inspiring and lasting results:

  • 100% of the women trained are still producing reusable pads.

  • Over 900 pads have been produced and 524 sold, generating a steady income for these rural women.

  • A total of 727 women and 257 men were reached with vital menstrual health education.

  • 89% of the participants have gone on to train other women, effectively spreading these essential skills to new communities.

  • In 7 out of 9 villages, the project has garnered support from influential community leaders, including chiefs, churches, and health centers.

  • Stigma surrounding menstruation is visibly decreasing as more men and community leaders join the movement to support the women.

Despite facing significant challenges like material shortages and ongoing insecurity in the region, the women continue to use their skills, equipment, and voices to create meaningful and lasting change. They have transformed from being simply pad producers into community educators and entrepreneurs.

This project is a powerful testament to the fact that when women are empowered, dignity, health, and livelihoods not only survive but thrive—even in conflict-affected areas.
